What does it mean to be in 1st on Memorial Day?

ARLINGTON, TEXAS • MAY 28, 2007 – After beating the Texas Rangers yesterday, the Boston Red Sox are now 11 1/2 games ahead in the American League East. The other division leaders in the American League are the Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels. Detroit leads the wild card race. The National League divisional leaders are the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers. San Diego has the 4th best record.

What are the odds the team in first place on Memorial Day becomes eventual winner of the division or the wild card? Let’s take a look at the last few years.
